Bishop John Keane, n.d.
Description
John Keane (1839-1918) was born in Ireland, and immigrated to the U.S. with his family when he was seven years old. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1866 in Baltimore. In 1878, Keane was appointed Bishop of Richmond. He also served as first rector of the newly-established Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., a post he held until 1897. In 1900, he was elevated as Archbishop of Dubuque, Iowa.
