Mission Helpers, Demetrias to Joseph, October 16, 1905
Description
Beginning on p. 2: “... Our Catechism classes are going down, I went to Anasco last week we had but a few children, the protestants give pictures, and do many little things to please children, do you know that they have 50 little ones in their school there, I told Sr Josephine to ask you about the pictures she seems to think you do not approve, we should also have a little singing when at all possible we must fight the protestants with their own weapons, to get the children is necessary if the parents will not make them come then we must attract them, besides the poor people have all kinds of pictures pasted on their walls which are not very good, and these pictures would do good in many ways. … Do you know that all of the men here of the better class with a few exceptions are Free Masons what a dreadful state of affairs what will the next generation be, with no school except protestant and public, poor dear Lord how He is despised by His very own, in my wildest imagination I could never have conceived such a state of affairs …”
