Description
Peter L. Ireton (1882-1958) was born in Baltimore, the son of Irish immigrants. He was ordained to the priesthood by James Cardinal Gibbons in 1906, and served as curate of St. Gregory's Church in Baltimore until 1926, when he became pastor of St. Ann's. In 1935, Ireton was consecrated as Coadjutor Bishop of Richmond, and final became ninth Bishop of Richmond in 1945.
