In 1989, Richard Neuhaus took Supreme Court Justice Harry Blackmun's suggestion that Roe vs. Wade, the 1973 ruling allowing women access to aborition, "might fall" that term to imagine "What comes after Roe v. Wade is gone?"  The article considers the moral, legal, cultural, and political implications of the end of Roe v. Wade.  George Higgins wrote a note commending Neuhaus on the article (dated, in fact, before its actual publication date, suggesting that he had read it before it was published.).
